“In Gioco per il Futuro” is a social innovation project that aims to redevelop and regenerate existing urban areas or sports facilities, to transform them into places of social cohesion and aggregation.
The project intends to use sport as a tool for integration and social inclusion in areas and neighbourhoods on the outskirts of the city of Milan, which often lack adequate spaces and socio-cultural stimuli. The sports areas of the Istituto Comprensivo Bruno Munari in Milan have deteriorated over the years to the point of becoming unfit for use. For this reason, they have been transformed into places where people can meet, grow and get to know each other. The children are thus placed in a structured and appropriate context, which allows them and the entire community to develop an identity and a strong sense of belonging, as well as positive and lasting relationships.
In agreement with the Municipal Administration, the volleyball and basketball courts in the school gardens in Via dei Salici have been renovated and are also available to organisations working with the school. The school is located in a rather isolated suburban area of Milan’s Municipality 7, whose social fabric is quite heterogeneous, with families coming from different parts of Italy and the world, sometimes culturally different and with different degrees of economic well-being, which in some cases unfortunately translates into real hardship. It is therefore in our interest to turn diversity into richness, trying to offer everyone the same opportunities and encouraging the community, and in particular children and young people, to make full use of sport and places of aggregation, adequately prepared to promote social cohesion, growth and mutual knowledge.
The main beneficiaries of this project are nursery and primary school pupils. The facility is also used by the young users of the organisations that collaborate with the school on social initiatives for the benefit of the neighbourhood and the community, including in particular Azione Solidale, which runs the Youth Aggregation Centre, and the AICS Olmi Sports Association. The new sports area is therefore a positive place of aggregation that can be used not only by the school’s pupils, but also by all members of the community, especially the youngest.
