Udayan is a center created for the reception and care of children with leprosy and children of lepers in Calcutta.
Thanks to the contribution of Milan Foundation, it has been provided with a space equipped for the practice of various sports, including soccer, table tennis, basketball, badminton and carom board. The construction of a sports space is part of the development of complementary activities and support to the training of young people assisted by the center. Founded by Reverend Stevens with the collaboration of Mother Teresa of Calcutta, Udayan is supported in Italy by the Benedetta d’Intino Foundation, and by royalties from the famous book “The City of Joy”, by Domenique Lapierre.
The center currently cares for nearly 250 children, who receive education (in their mother tongue – either Hindi or Bengali), special protein food, clothing, medical care in a green and serene environment near Barrackpore, West Bengal, – very different from the shacks and neighborhoods.
