“My Dream”: A Project for Girls in Nairobi’s Slums

THE PROJECT

Fondazione Milan remains committed to supporting these young football and sports enthusiasts, continuing initiatives launched in 2021. In an environment where their struggles often go unheard, sports become a powerful tool for empowerment, restoring dignity and respect. Both on and off the field, these girls fight for personal and social emancipation.

Alice for Children has been active in Nairobi’s slums for over 15 years, supporting 2,500 children with education, medical care, food, and clothing. The organization builds schools and orphanages, rescuing children from child labor and integrating them into educational programs that also include sports. Sports not only allow them to reclaim their childhood but also protect them from violence, abuse, and exploitation.

THE PURPOSE

The project aims to create a safe environment where girls from the slums can grow up protected from abuse and discrimination in a society marked by deep inequalities and gender violence.

At the heart of this initiative is the belief that sports—combined with education and psychological support—are essential tools in helping these girls become strong, independent women who recognize their worth. Through competitive sports, they learn to acknowledge their strength, assert their rights, and strive for a fairer and more inclusive society.

BENEFICIARIES

The project directly involves over 1,000 girls aged 10 to 18 living in the Dandora and Korogocho slums.

These adolescents attend the association’s partner schools, where they receive support beyond education, opening doors to a future filled with opportunities.
