Queen: An Example of Resilience and Passion – Sport for Change

An Example of Resilience and Passion

Queen is a thirteen-year-old girl who lives in the slums of Dandora, Kenya. Coming from a family of four, Queen discovered in soccer a way to dream and a source of strength. Since 2022, she has been playing for the Milan team of Tom Mboya Primary School, nurturing her passion for soccer and diligently pursuing her studies.

This year, Queen represented her school as the primary midfielder and secondary forward in the school championship. Although her team didn’t win the title, placing third, Queen was chosen as the “champion of the season” for her extraordinary perseverance. During the championship, severe flooding in her community swept away nearly everything she owned, including her family’s small home. Despite these devastating hardships, Queen continued attending every training session and game, demonstrating exceptional commitment and strength.

Thanks to Fondazione Milan’s Sport for Change program and support from Alice for Children, Queen and her family received new housing, and she was provided with a uniform and school shoes, allowing her to continue her education without interruption. Queen faced this period of great uncertainty with unwavering determination, actively participating in the championship and giving her all in each game.

Her passion also led her to stand out in the Nairobi regional interschool tournaments, where she was chosen to represent her school. Although she did not advance to the next stages, her tenacity and fighting spirit remain a shining example for her community and her peers.
