Gloria, Eveline and the Power of Sport – Sport for Change

Sisterhood and Perseverance on the Soccer Field

For Eveline and Gloria, two young girls residing in Alice Village, Nairobi, Kenya, soccer is more than just a game; it represents salvation, joy, and the chance to feel important. As members of the all-girls soccer team, they have found comfort, camaraderie, and purpose on the field.

Eveline, a midfielder, faces life’s challenges just as she does on the soccer field. Through training, she has learned the virtues of punctuality and readiness, skills that transcend sports and are crucial in everyday life. For Eveline, soccer is not just about scoring goals but also about embracing both educational and athletic aspects during her growth.

Gloria, Eveline’s teammate, has gained self-confidence through soccer and is gradually finding her place in the world. Through the highs and lows of the game, she has discovered her voice, finding comfort and belonging in the applause and joy of victory. Soccer has taught her patience and perseverance, traits that will be fundamental for her future.

The Sport for Change program has become a vital part of the girls’ lives, supporting Eveline, Gloria, and countless other girls like them in Kenya. With resources, psychological guidance, and new opportunities, the girls have discovered new capacities within themselves to challenge adversities and pursue their dreams.

Eveline and Gloria, continuing to participate in the program alongside their teammates, have found a sense of belonging and sisterhood forged through shared passion and perseverance. As they lace up their cleats and head to the field, they are not just soccer players; they are symbols of resilience, hope, and the transformative power of sport.

An example for many other girls, as well as for younger children.

The progress made by Eveline, Gloria, and the entire team is a tangible result made possible by the invaluable support of Fondazione Milan‘s supporters. Together, we can continue to cultivate dreams, break down barriers, and create a brighter future for all children, one goal at a time.
